Brad: I grew up in a Christian family. My oldest brother shared with me the good news of salvation by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. I placed my trust in Him when I was five years old. I'm presently working alongside the Hungarian Evangelical Church in Budapest. Kari: I placed my trust in Jesus Christ for salvation when I heard the gospel at the age of 14 at a Young Life camp.

Magyar Mullets October 2010 Newsletter

Dear Family and Friends,

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the

Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. These

precious commodities are only found

in Jesus Christ. There’s no other name

under heaven that we can call on to be

saved. Grace, mercy, and peace to all

who believe—great gifts from God.

There was a young man baptized last

Sunday. In 1993 he was the first baby

to be born in the church which would

grow to become the Kelenföld Evangelical

Church, where we presently serve.

His family and friends were there to

witness his obedience to follow Jesus

Christ. He heard from his father at a

very young age that God created man

and that man sinned. In his words he

had an infinitesimal understanding of

what it meant that Jesus Christ died to

pay for his sins; nonetheless, he knew

right from wrong. As he grew, he came

to understand more. God has guided

him from that time to the present. He

thanked his mom and dad for teaching

him the truth. He thanked his Sunday

School teachers. He thanked the man

baptizing him for training him in how

to follow Christ. We all thanked God for

giving him new life.

On another Sunday this month, we

hauled some teenagers and all kinds of

equipment from our church out to worship

together with some teens from

the Zsámbok church. They’d gotten to

know each other at camp this year. It

was the first time for some of them to be in a gypsy church. I also wanted Max, my nephew, to be able tomeet some of them and see what God has done to transform their lives. The ones in the picture were most curious to know if Max had a girl friend, what he studies in school, and what he likes to do. Of course, the hedgehog stew we enjoyed after the service was a bonus.

The city renovation above the new subway

line near us has begun in earnest.

Not far from the ministry center, a building

is being demolished in preparation

for the development between us and the

train station. This is the first in what will

be several drastic changes to the community

in the decade to come. I think

there will be many opportunities for us

to share the gospel.

Our English clubs are attracting new

students and our teammates have organized

a Kelenföld Christmas Choir that’s

attracting other locals. Kari and I have

joined in with them in preparation for

a concert on December 19th. I’m sure it

tickles them hearing us sing in Hungarian

as much as we enjoy hearing them

sing in English. It’s a joy to sing together.

Thank you for praying for us and supporting us in order that we may labor here sharing the message of grace, mercy, and peace in Jesus Christ. Many churches here have given aid to relieve the suffering caused by the red sludge resulting from an earlier industrial chemical accident just outside Budapest. We’re asking the Lord for His direction as we help people recover from this disaster over the long term. Lastly, we are having a memorial worship service at KEGY on November 7th and all of Géza bácsi’s family are invited. Pray that we could minister to them in their loss.

Blessings in Christ,

Brad, for all of us.
