Brad: I grew up in a Christian family. My oldest brother shared with me the good news of salvation by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. I placed my trust in Him when I was five years old. I'm presently working alongside the Hungarian Evangelical Church in Budapest. Kari: I placed my trust in Jesus Christ for salvation when I heard the gospel at the age of 14 at a Young Life camp.

Magyar Mullets June 2008 Newsletter

Dear Family and Friends,
My encouragement these days comes from a verse in 2 Kings 6:16 where the LORD is with Elisha: “Don’t be afraid”, the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
The first week of June was packed with graduation parties and goodbyes, visits with Hungarian families, and a one year anniversary grill party for our group working to plant a church in a neighborhood nearby. We wrapped up the month with three days of training in our small group for a course in basic Christianity that we want to use this fall in a church plant. Finally on the last day of the month, we turned in our applications for extending our residence permits.
The middle two weeks of June we spent on a memorable family vacation together in northern Greece. On the drive down and back we listened to all the books in the Chronicles of Narnia series thanks to Whitney. I didn’t have to pull the car over once. :-) There were parts of the country that reminded us of the badlands of Montana, the wooded hills of Missouri, and the buttes in Wyoming on I-25 near Chugwater. We spent seven nights in an apartment near a beach that was a lot like camping. We spent a couple nights in Kavala, Greece in the ancient port city known in Bible times as Neapolis: (Acts 16:11) the city where Paul landed when he brought the gospel to Europe. We saw Thessalonica. We saw the ruins in Philippi where Paul and Silas were imprisoned. We saw the theater where Christians were fed to lions for the amusement of large crowds. Despite the heat of the day, the visit there had a dramatic affect on my heart. The message for which those believers died is the same message we preach today: Turn from your wicked ways; be reconciled to God. In the Apostle Paul’s words to the jailor in Philippi, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” Thank you for praying for us; we couldn’t have had a more refreshing time together.
Of course coming back from vacation can be hard—especially when we put Peter on a plane and a couple hours later said goodbye to Whitney, Kelsey, and Clint. Jacob is the only child for awhile and he’s staying busy with lawn mowing, weight training, soccer, and video soccer games. Kari has her hands full with ministry finances. Our new man, Attila, in the ministry center is doing a great job and Géza still comes in to make sure we’re not forgetting anything. I think he just loves to be around family and to see our kids growing up. His face lights up when everyone is crowded around in “his” kitchen at the ministry center.
Please pray for the students in the Kids English camp the first two weeks of July to come to faith in Jesus Christ. We have another team coming to do a Teen English camp the last two weeks of July and a construction team working on several mission properties including our ministry center. July will be an exhausting, but blessed month of ministry. Thank you for praying for us, supporting us in our roles, and laboring alongside us in your respective God-appointed roles. We are blessed!
In Christ,
Brad, for the family
